COMMON PROBLEMS IN INTEGRATION: A NEW CARTOGRAPHY BASED ON CLINICAL EXPERIENCE

This section describes the most common problems found among patients who request integration psychotherapy. This classification comes from the experience accumulated over the years in my clinical practice, both in the ICEERS support service, in my private practice, and in my role as a facilitator of experiences in non-ordinary states of consciousness.

After several years being of service to hundreds of people, I realized that while their underlying motivations were diverse, the problems they presented could be readily classified into a few categories. The classification criteria are both etiological (based on the situation that has generated the problem) and symptomatic (descriptive of the specific problems that arise in each case). Furthermore, this classification is intended to be useful in choosing and guiding the most effective therapeutic intervention.

The cartography of adverse effects that I present here has evolved over the years and will likely continue to evolve: it is not a closed model. Here I merely describe my current understanding of this phenomenon.
